Diving in Sharm el Sheikh

The feast for the eyes also continues under water. Be it at the house reef or in the nearby Strait of Tiran. Less than 20 minutes by Zodiac from the diving school. Already one dives with a roll backwards into the miracle world of the colours. Huge gorgonians stand almost still. Perches play all around. There must be thousands. A turtle approaches curiously and poses for the photographers. Even further down in the 20-meter range, barracudas form a grey wall.

The Dive Center is located directly on the beach of the resort. If you want to be comfortable, simply descend here to dive at the house reef. If you want to get off at the next dive site within 20 minutes, you can book the dive sites Ras Nasrani, Ras Bob and Ras Gameela. Or just for diving in the Strait of Tiran.

Diving at Ras Mohammed National Park

The next day it starts early. Right after breakfast. At the latest now the divers are lively enough to take on the probably most beautiful national park of the Sinai. Diving at Ras Mohammed! Also with the big diving ship the trip to the south takes a good hour. We stop at the eastern end of Shark Reef. One of the top places in the national park. The steep walls are covered with soft corals. Here all divers go into raptures. There is almost no time to look around and admire the reef sharks, barracudas and mackerels in the open water. A Napoleonfish accompanies the dive up to the Jolanda Reef. Here we come across the remains of a freighter wreck.

Desert Tour in Sharm el Sheikh

After such impressions, a barren desert day will also be accommodated in the Sinai program. Abd El Rahman Mohamed is waiting for us. With the jeep it goes 200 kilometers up to the north. Just past the border to Israel. On the way Bedouin tent camp. But also settlements with brick houses, electricity and water connection. At the well a boy filling a canister. A camel drinking his weekly ration of water. 30 litres. That will have to last until next Sunday. The last 30 kilometers are offroad. A shaking tour with a great view. In front of and below us the Coloured Canyon winds like its big brother in the USA. Impressive, huge, an incredible play of colours in the sunset.

Three hours later he is also defeated. In close contact, over steep grades and through high gorges. Pressed through narrow holes. Much later, back at the hotel, after a shower and wrapped in a bathrobe, the discoverer’s pride comes up. You feel like Lawrence of Arabia after a successful crossing of the desert.

The best dive sites in Sharm el Sheikh

Gordon: The first and most easterly of the reefs of the famous Strait of Tiran, lined up one after the other. It can be reached within 15 to 20 minutes. Large gorgonians, fire corals, dense perch. Also butterfly fish, turtles, mackerels and barracudas.

Diving at Thomas Reef: The reef between Gordon and Woodhouse is smaller in size. Therefore the dives usually take place around the whole reef. Although it is the smallest of the “Big Four”, “Thomas” is considered by many to be the most beautiful site. Because of its white, orange and purple soft corals. Also a reliable tip for schools of barracudas and encounters with sharks.

Woodhouse: A canyon with overhangs and caves. Dense shoals of fish, grey sharks and whitetip reef sharks. Also stingrays and in winter even manta rays. At a depth of 30 meters you can meet nurse sharks.

Jackson: The last dive site of the famous Strait of Tiran has a wreck to offer. Jackson is known for its black corals, orange spotted jackfish and turtles.

Diving at Ras Mohammed: One of the top dive sites in the Red Sea. 90 meters deep. But already in the “allowed” diving area you will find an unbelievable variety. Shark Reef and Jolanda Reef are the most popular dive sites.
