scuba diving equalization using Valsalva or Toynbee method

The Toynbee Method is a method used to induce the pressure compensation in the inner ear when descending. The method is conceivably simple and gentle. You simple keep your nose closed and swallow at the same time. By doing so, the auditory tube is opened, whereby pressure compensation takes place.

What is to be observed regarding the Toynbee Method?

The method is only effective in case of small pressure changes. This is why you must carry out this procedure quickly and more often while descending.
