Visibility is a very individual thing when diving. Above all the light conditions and suspended particles determine how far you can see under water and the visibility conditions at the same time. The deeper you dive, the less light gets under water. As a result, you can also see less.

Good to know concerning Visibility Conditions

You perceived visibility individually. So when you often dive in clear bodies of water, you already experience a 5-metre clear visibility as little. When you rather often dive in troubled waters, you perceive the same distance as a very good condition.
